As the core module of our Level 3 Award in Leadership and Management, Leadership Skills Development is Impellus’ flagship course.

This one-day class is delivered to over 1,700 delegates from across the UK and beyond every single year.

Whether you’re brand new to a leadership position, or you’ve never had any formal training in the subject, this course will help you to evaluate your own leadership and explore ideas to help you to reach your full potential.

What does the day entail?

The day starts with a discussion around the differences between two terms that are often misinterpreted and wrongly intertwined: Leadership and Management.

Where does the role of the manager end, and that of the leader begin? This session will help you to strike the right balance between the two.

We’ll then go on examine the roles of values, beliefs, and behaviours, with a particular focus on your own personal values, and how they might influence your decisions and actions as a leader.

After that, we turn our focus to a powerful theory of motivation that will help you to get the best out of your teams.

One of the key principles of Leadership Skills Development is our study of different leadership styles.

For delegates taking the ILM qualification, this forms the core part of your assessment, and will really help you to examine the impact you’re having on the people around you.

A crucial aspect of any leader’s role is gaining buy-in and desire from their teams.

Without this, their job is made incredibly difficult.

With that in mind, we’ll take you through a case study that will make a potentially tricky situation much easier to manage, as well as looking at some conversations you may need to have in your own organisation, and how best to approach those.

As the course draws to a conclusion, we’ll have a discussion around self-awareness, and take a look at the impact of not just what you say, but how you say it.

As with every Impellus course, the day rounds off on a personal action plan.

The purpose of the course conclusion is to let you think – how can you take your learning from the session back into the workplace and make some real, tangible changes?
