Leading Facilities Management company, TCFM, announces a major management development initiative as part of its plans for excellence and growth.

TC Facilities Management (TCFM) are one of the UK’s leading providers of facilities management – cleaning, security and maintenance services. With 6,500 staff and 480 managers across the country, and a client list including many of the UK’s largest retailers, if you don’t know them by name you’ll have come across their work somewhere.

The company has grown successfully for over 50 years and attributes much of its success to the quality of the people they employ.

“To make our organisation successful we need to attract and develop the best people who are capable of delivering the consistently high levels of service that our clients expect from us”, explains the company’s Learning and Development Manager, Peter Clay.

“We have a big culture of excellence here so we ensure our staff have good technical skills but we also give them training in many other areas such as customer service skills too. Much of this we deliver internally ourselves”.

Choosing Impellus for Management Training

When it came to developing management and leadership skills, however, the company faced a different challenge. TCFM knew that giving managers specialist training would help them to increase productivity, improve customer service and reduce workplace problems, but also recognised the challenge of getting Managers to step back from their busy lives to identify the areas in which they can improve their skills and their teams’ performance.

Peter continues, “We wanted a mix of learning and development characteristics which we thought were going to be difficult to track down. These were chiefly that;

  • We needed UK-wide training
  • It had to be accredited and nationally recognised
  • Training had to be consistent at each level yet offer flexibility around individual needs
  • Courses should challenge and engender responsibility rather than dictate
  • We wanted our managers to do open courses so they could integrate with other managers at a similar level from other organisations
  • The training had to deliver real organisational benefit to TCFM, our productivity and our clients

The company has now entered into a development partnership with Impellus to deliver these requirements.

Hayley Key who led much of the procurement process said, “Impellus were able to meet all of our requirements and were happy for us to trial their courses before we made our final decision. Feedback from the trial places met our expectations that courses were pitched at the right level”.

Commenting on the launch, Jon Dean of Impellus remarked, “TCFM is an organisation with a very clear identity and culture, and one that has continued plans for their successful growth. We’re delighted that they’ve chosen us as a partner to deliver the skills to their management team which will underpin that. By accrediting their managers with Impellus ILM Awards the company will begin to see financial and workplace benefits as well as attract outstanding and aspirational employees”.
